This is too real for Hard Knocks.
Chad Johnson was arrested Saturday, accused of head-butting his newlywed wife, Evelyn Lozada, during an argument in the driveway of their home outside of Miami. He was charged with simple battery, domestic violence, which is a misdemeanor.
Suddenly, the aging receiver's impressive comeback attempt with his hometown Miami Dolphins— and his starring role on HBO's reality show, Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins— is in serious jeopardy.
During last week's premiere episode, the fun-loving Johnson joked he would get arrested on his off-day. It sounded like typical Chad, being "Crazy Chad."
More seriously, there was a scene where new Dolphins coach Joe Philbin scolded Johnson, 34, for his vulgar language, and even warned the 12th-year veteran he could be released if it continued.
Well, if the serious charges of domestic assault stick — Johnson reportedly told Davie, Fla. police he and Lozada bumped heads as they argued — Philbin will be forced to make a decision to cut Johnson based on a much worse demonstration of tasteless behavior.
Lozada was treated at a hospital for a laceration to the forehead.
Philbin might have to cut his best receiver — or stand at the front of the line for hypocrites.
